A couple of weeks ago («maybe» more) a friend of mine asked me to make a post about fashionable ways to wear a belt.

Wearing a belt just to keep your trousers on the right place is yesterday’s news. I have dozens of belts and only one to pair with jeans. Why? I got to be honest, I don’t wear jeans or trousers very often but the main reason is because a belt is an accessorize that can really switch the way a dress fits your body.

I believe the best way to find what is the perfect belt for you is stand in the front of a mirror, in a store (why not?), and try diferent sizes, shapes, colors. From what I have seen on the runway, wide belts are out. Thin belts are my favourites at the moment and I recently bought a grey one at Stradivarius to combine it with a navy A line dress (only 2.95 euros).

Here is a little guide I made with the help of Looklet to help you to find the type of belt that really enhance your body.

Pear – That’s actually the shape of my body! For those women who share pear shape, the belt should be thin, as you can see in the picture and, for a better fit, wear it under the bust or waist line. Wearing it that way will accentuate the smallest part of your body and create a more balanced look.

Apple - Your «problem zone» is your belly so the best solution is choose wide belts and put them across the hip line (that will help to cover your tummy). But you can also follow the rules for the pear shape to drive attention to your bust.

Hourglass – «You’s body is a wonderland»… Do you recognize that song? It’s from John Mayer. With this shape you can do everything. Again, wear your belt on the thinest part of your body. You can go for statement belts if you want so. As you can see in the picture, the bow belt turns a boring black dress into a «all eyes on you» dress. Fierce, bitches!

Petite - If you’re petite, every single inch counts. A belt can’t privide you a miracle but it can help you. If you whatched TLC’s «What not to wear» («Esquadrão da Moda», in Portuguese) you know this rule: choose pieces proporcional to your body. Apply this rule to your belt choices too. If you go for a thin belt in the same color of you’re outfit, it will do more for you than a huge and detailed belt.

Slim athletic - Let’s face it. You have zero curves, so what? (I’m having a Tyra moment!) Fake it! As you can see, the navy dress has almost an A line shape but, with the leather belt, the girl looks almost curvy. You can also create a curvy figure by wearing a belt around the hips in a casual look (jeans & t-shirt).

On the left, Zara. On the right, Burberry Prorsum. Ok, they’re not equal but you can see the «inspiration». I bought Zara trench-coat last Sunday (I went to see a movie, «Invictus», which was great). In this picture (go to ZARA.ES) the color isn’t really close to what it looks like in reality.

Love, love, love the first look (the trench-coat dress) and the denim shirt!

Which one is your favourite?

Carey Mulligan

She’s my current fashion crush! Carey, 24, is the British actress everyone is talking about! Her role in «An Education» gave her an Oscar nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role. We’ll see if she wins but she has already won several awards this season! Her red carpet appearances? Flawless.

Burberry’s trench coat

Burberry’s trench-coat is the key piece to the upcoming season! If you don’t own a trench, you got to get one quickly. I have already one in my wardrobe and also a little trench bolero, but next trip to the mall and I’m going to buy a new one. You can find it in every store. H&M has it (I saw one there for 39.95 euros), Zara has tones of options (around 50 and 60 euros).

Coral Lipstick

If you look at the pictures of Chanel Haute Couture show I posted last week you might have noticed it. Coral lipstick is a Spring make up must-have! The one in the board is Chanel but I’m going to do some research and I will post options to suit everyone’s budget! (I have been talking to some readers and friends and they all told me «You got to post things we can buy!». I’ll try to come up with clothes, accessories and make up with nice prices.)

Chanel Nail Polish – Particulière

Jade is past. Embrace Particulière! It’s not beige, it’s not grey. It’s kinda like mud color. I know ASOS has some similar colors but I’ll try to know if Risqué or L’Oreal have something like that. By the way, Risqué has a new collection, Risqué by Reinaldo Lourenço (for those who don’t know, an amazing brazilian designer) and I think one of the colors is also similar to Particulière.

If you have to cry, go outside

Kelly Cutrone wrote this book. You can see her every week on MTV series «The City». She’s the founder and owner of People’s Revolution, a public relations, branding and marketing firm. The book is about what it means to be feminine! Not a book, a guide!

Hope For Haiti NOW!

It was shocking watching all of the damages of the earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I cried once, while I was watching the news. The people of Haiti don’t deserve such a tragedy! Help them! Buy the CD, make a donation, pray!

Gaga meets GA

01Fev10

GA stands for Giorgio Armani, of course!

Lady Gaga, the crazy fashionista, took home only two awards: Best Dance Recording for Poker Face and Best Electronic/Dance Music. What about the major categories?? Congrats to Beyoncé («Single Ladies» won Song Of The Year) and Taylor Swift («Fearless» won Album Of The Year), they were the big winners, six and four awards, respectively.

But the main atraction of the 2010 Grammy Awards was Gaga’s explosive outfits! What else? She’s definitely into Giorgio Armani right now and to be honest she didn’t look that crazy yesterday! At least I have seen her looking worst!

Hate it or love it, Lady Gaga is unique. In the way she sounds, in the way she dresses herself. She’s a performer, an entertainer and she dresses like she meant it. So don’t hate Gaga, show her some love! Even though she can’t cover her ass!
